By the early 1900s, women played an important role in major political and social movements, such as labor unions and women's suffrage. Although they couldn't vote in West Virginia until 1920, many women actively pushed for changes in society. They advocated for better working conditions, prison reform, the prohibition of alcohol, and the advancement of women's rights. Their efforts helped to drive social progress, even before they gained the right to vote.
