The first female member of Congress from West Virginia, Kee filled the seat of her late husband, Congressman John Kee, in a special election. Supported by the United Mine Workers, she won a close race and became a strong advocate for coal miners, fighting for unemployment relief and veterans' issues. Her work, particularly on the Accelerated Public Works Act, solidified her legacy. After retiring in 1964, she passed the congressional torch to her son.
