Cattle drive on Summersville's Main Street, about 1913
Caption: "This is how Summersville looked in the early 1900s with none of the featured buildings remaining to date (1984). The roof on the right was the H. B. Campbell house. The next building is the Methodist Church, built in 1906 and razed in 1965. Beyond is the Walker House."
From the Fayette Democrat (1913) about a cattle drive in that area:
A fine drove of cattle, 226 in number and owned by Arnold McCue, of Nicholas, were driven through Fayette last week on their way to Nicholas. These steers were two years old or more and all seemed to be in fine condition. At the price at which beef is now selling this drove of cattle represented a small fortune. They were purchased in Raleigh and Wyoming counties. It is said that Mr. McCue has another drove of about 300 head to bring through. At Fayette these cattle all crossed the bridge in a body, being perhaps the greatest weight ever placed on it and although it has been condemned as unsafe for several months, it bore the great weight without any apparent strain.
