Jay Banks (1921-2015) lived in Monroe County, the home of his ancestors. He was a graduate of WVU and earned an M.D. from the University of Arkansas in 1949. He wrote many articles for the Monroe Watchman newspaper and two books. He chaired the Monroe County Bicentennial Commission in 1999.
